Designing for a circular future

The solderless LED holder offers a convenient and streamlined approach to constructing natural white single-color or tunable white LED assemblies. By securely fastening the module to its heat sink using 2 screws and push-fit electrical connections manual soldering of LEDs is no longer necessary. This not only protects the LED from excessive heat but also maintains a clean surface free from solder flux residue.

One notable advantage of using this holder is that it transforms light fixtures into true circular products, supporting our long-term commitment to sustainability by providing a direct and uncomplicated method for repair and reuse.

Additionally, we have incorporated holders for light lenses that adhere to Zhaga standards, an international organisation in the lighting industry, which is focused on standardising interfaces of LED lighting fixtures, including LED light engines, modules, arrays, and holders. Thanks to this, we can offer more material options for enhanced serviceability through repair and reuse.

The way companies design and manufacture products today has a direct impact on the world we will inhabit tomorrow. Merely recycling is not enough. We are paving the way for a world where all materials and products are made with tomorrow in mind.

Rooted in the Cradle to Cradle® design principles, this approach requires every step of a product’s use cycle – from design and production to end-of-life – to follow a circular pathway. Today, it is possible to reshape the way we design and produce things, using innovation to drive change.

DuraGreen’s products labeled with the ‘circular use’ sticker are designed for easy cycling and disassembly. These products include materials such as pure aluminum and solid brass while excluding plastics from their structures to increase the cycling rate for their subsequent use Additionally, our many customer service centers (authorised distributor offices/shops) offer a rapid and convenient service for our clients, including replacing the LED chip and LED chip holder with two fixing screws and push-fit electrical connections onsite to extend the life of your lighting.

DuraGreen’s ‘circular use’ light fittings are easily disassembled for their cycling pathway. 99% of the product’s weight is materials compatible with the intended cycling pathway, with only the LED chip and LED chip holder requiring replacement for the next cycle of life.

DuraGreen’s circular products come with:

– 10-year warranty

– Lifetime upgrading, repair, and reuse services

– End-of-life service (return unwanted light fittings to DuraGreen so they can be reintroduced into standard stock)

Illuminating with purpose, we strive to bring light precisely where it is needed. By minimising the presence of extraneous lighting fixtures, we champion resource conservation and a more sustainable path. This commitment translates into reduced power consumption, lower maintenance requirements, and decreased energy costs.

In our quest for a greener future, every product we offer proudly embodies an environmentally friendly ethos. Together, we are playing our part in safeguarding the precious world we call home. But our endeavors do not stop there. We are diligently working towards supplying luminaries, informed by the Cradle to Cradle® principles, paving the way for a circular economy. With this innovative approach, we are forging a path towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.

Important safety notice

Please follow the provided instructions for guaranteed safety when using this light fixture. Keep the instructions in a safe place.

Before carrying out installation or any operation on the luminaire, make sure the electric power has been disconnected.

Light fixtures are not suitable to be covered in thermally insulating material.

To prevent potential hazards, the manufacturer or an authorised service agent should be the only party replacing the light source or replacing a damaged external flexible cable in the luminaire.

Step 1 – Identify the luminaire and required replacement parts

Before starting work, confirm:

• luminaire model and product family
• LED chip specification
• colour temperature requirement
• whether the fitting uses a standard or tunable white configuration
• matching solderless LED holder
• correct fixing screws
Only use the correct matching replacement parts for the luminaire being serviced.

Step 2 – Isolate power and prepare the work area

Before opening or handling the luminaire:

• disconnect electrical power completely
• ensure safe access to the fitting
• prepare a clean working area
• arrange replacement parts and tools before disassembly

This helps ensure safe servicing and reduces the risk of contamination or component damage.

Step 3 – Open the luminaire and inspect the LED assembly

Carefully open the luminaire in accordance with its design and inspect the internal LED assembly.

Check:
• condition of the LED chip
• condition of the solderless LED holder
• condition of fixing screws
• condition of push-fit electrical connections
• cleanliness of the contact and mounting surfaces

Determine whether the repair requires:

• replacement of the LED chip only , or
• replacement of both the LED chip and solderless LED holder

Step 4 – Remove the existing LED chip or LED assembly

Carefully remove the existing component as required.

Where applicable:
• disconnect the push-fit electrical connections
• remove the 2 fixing screws
• lift out the LED chip
• if necessary, remove the matching solderless LED holder as well
Take care not to damage surrounding components or optical parts during removal.

Step 5 – Prepare the mounting surface

Before fitting the new component:

• make sure the contact surface is clean
• remove any residue or contamination from the mounting area
• check that the heat sink contact area is ready for reassembly

Where required during replacement, apply a small amount of thermal paste to help maintain good thermal contact between the LED component and the heat sink.

Only a small, even application should be used. Excess material should be avoided.

Step 6 – Install the replacement component

Fit the new part using the DuraGreen solderless replacement method.

If replacing the LED chip only:

• position the replacement LED chip correctly
• secure it with the 2 fixing screws
• reconnect the push-fit electrical connections

If replacing both the LED chip and solderless LED holder:

• install the new holder in the correct position
• fit the LED chip to the assembly
• secure the components using the 2 fixing screws
• complete the electrical connection using the push-fit terminals

No manual soldering is required.
This repair approach helps protect the LED from unnecessary heat exposure and supports clean, efficient servicing.

Step 7 – Reassemble and test

After replacement:
• check that all parts are correctly seated
• verify that screws are secure
• confirm electrical connections are properly fitted
• reassemble the luminaire
• restore power
• carry out a functional test

Check:
• correct light output
• correct colour temperature
• stable operation
• clean appearance after reassembly

Step 8 – Complete service record

After the repair is completed, record:

• date of service
• serviced luminaire model
• replacement parts used
• colour temperature / LED specification
• whether LED chip only or LED chip + holder were replaced
• name of authorised service point or technician

Maintaining clear records supports future maintenance, upgrades, and circular lifecycle management.
